Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site 1230 N. Delaware St., Indianapolis, IN 46202

Venue Phone: 317-631-1888

Event Phone: 317-631-1888 Presidential Humor showcases the humorous side of the presidency and those seeking the office, with a focus on parody, caricature, anecdote and witticisms.

The exhibit will include the quirkier items that have been created through the years, including political campaign items, paraphernalia, toys, pet related items, and clothing to demonstrate how humor has been used effectively by candidates and political foes alike.

"Presidential Humor is about recognizing how humor is used as a tool in democracies to make statements about leaders and how something as serious as politics can cause people to laugh out loud," said Curatorial Fellow Emily Hanawalt.

Study the Bible with Madelon Maupin

Event Description: Madelon Maupin has a Masters in Theological Studies from San Francisco Theological Seminar. She has lectured for Princess Cruises for their Holy Land tours and has led her own groups to the Middle East, including Israel and Turkey. Madelon’s company, BibleRoads.com, provides extensive Biblical
education materials in the form of talks, online video courses and Bible Study workbooks, etc.

Please join us to explore The Gospel of Matthew, often called “the early Church’s Handbook”. Although Matthew’s Gospel launches the New Testament Canon, it was not the first written. Its place of honor came because it was such a useful tool to early Christians in learning how to pray, how to treat one’s neighbor, how to be alert to temptations that would lead one spiritually
astray. This talk will explore the structure of Matthew, some of its parables, its relationship to the Old Testament, the birth story’s distinction from Luke’s version, its historical, political
and religious context and how to dive into its spiritual treasures more on your own after the talk.

Indianapolis City Market Catacombs Tours

Indianapolis City Market Catacombs Tours

Saturday May 18th Indianapolis city Market Catacombs Tours 2019 at Indianapolis City Market

Indianapolis City Market and Indiana Landmarks stage tours of an unusual site usually hidden from public view. Our guided tour of the Catacombs shows you a Roman-looking expanse of brick arches beneath the outdoor Whistler Plaza of City Market.

The Catacombs qualify as both a ruin and a redevelopment opportunity. They’re what remains of Tomlinson Hall, an imposing building whose main hall seated 3,500 people. Dietrich Bohlen designed the hall in 1886 to complement his earlier work at City Market. He also designed Indiana Landmarks’ Morris-Butler House. Tomlinson burned in January 1958, turning Market Street into an icy lake as firefighters battled the blaze. The city took down the remains later that year but left the vast basement of brick arches intact. Our Catacombs don’t have bones or crypts, but feature scores of brick barrel-vaulted arches from Tomlinson Hall.

Tours last approximately 30 minutes and depart from Whistler Plaza, the west plaza of City Market, 222 E. Market Street, Indianapolis. The tour check-in may be relocated inside the West Wing, depending on the weather.
